“Which is harder to talk about – your pimp or your mother?,” I asked our teen trafficking victims during our weekly support group. “Our moms,” said the girls unanimously. The girls had just spent the last hour describing how terrifying their traffickers were, but the tears only started flowing when they talked about how they had been locked in closets or sold to the cartel by their mother for drugs. The betrayal of a parent is devastating.
The abuse endured in early childhood by family members is what led most of our girls to being trafficked as teens. Today, these family relationships are still very fractured and painful. Please join Free the Captives in praying for the girls we serve. If you want to help more, participate in one of our events or volunteer meetings listed below. Together, we can make a difference.
