Free the Captives and the Office of Harris County Attorney Vince Ryan are working together to shut down illegal sexually oriented businesses that promote human trafficking. Numerous illegal massage parlors, strip clubs, cantinas and brothels make Houston a hub for trafficking. We are training pro bono attorneys to assist the Office of Harris County Attorney in using nuisance abatement laws to eliminate these illegal businesses. This is a unique opportunity for attorneys licensed in Texas to fight human trafficking in a meaningful and high impact manner. Prior experience is not needed. Background checks will be conducted for all volunteer attorneys.
A training was held on July 26, 2011 at the Office Harris County Attorney Vince Ryan, 1019 Congress St., Floor 15, Houston, Texas 77002-1799 (one hour of CLE). Cases were assigned at the training. The expected time commitment after the training will be approximately seven to ten hours per month for two to three months. For more information, see the press release on this training.
